Doublespeak, outright lies, false claims, and more of the typical methods used to push through egregious infringements on our rights have all been on display in the selling of the Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive, which went into full effect on May Day. At this point, there is little that looks terrible. Nothing has disappeared off store shelves—yet. Never let it be said that the governments stripping us of our rights are stupid. EU herb ban technically starts today | Alliance for Natural Health

Today is the day that the European Union’s regulatory noose on herbal products is pulled tight. The result? Thousands of herbal products technically become illegal, simply because they cannot negotiate the regulatory minefield built by the EU over the last 10 or so years. The full implementation of the EU Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive (THMPD) today represents the most recently placed piece of this complex jigsaw that will impact the majority of the most useful and effective herbal products on the EU market. This includes the majority of herbal products associated with very long-standing non-European healthcare systems like traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), Tibetan medicine, Ayurveda, southern African, Amazonian and other traditions. As the EU’s draconian directive to drastically limit our access to medicinal herbs takes full effect today, it needs to be noted that nature’s remedies will now be held to a higher standard than drugs produced by Big Pharma. When drugs are approved, the last consideration is whether they interfere with the actions of a herb or food.
